10 Questions to Ask Any A2 Ghee Brand Before You Buy

Before buying A2 ghee, ask the brand which animal and breed the milk comes from, whether it has a genotype test (A2A2) and from which lab, whether purity is tested at a NABL-accredited lab, whether the ghee is made from curd (bilona) or cream, how much milk goes into a kilo, and how it is packed and dated. A genuine brand answers all of them plainly; vague answers are the red flag.

Quick take

  • Source: which animal, which breed?
  • Proof: which lab, which test, which date?
  • Method: curd or cream? Milk per kilo?
  • We answer all ten for our own ghee below.

“A2” on a label costs nothing to print. These ten questions get past the label. We have answered each one for A2 Farmer so you can see what a complete answer looks like, and hold every brand, including us, to it.

You can buy A2 ghee online from A2 Farmer, with the full lab report published.

The ten questions

  1. Which animal and which breed? “Desi cow” is vague; Gir, Sahiwal or Murrah is specific (buffalo breeds, cow breeds).
    Our answer: grass-fed Murrah buffalo.
  2. How do you know the milk is A2? Look for a DNA genotype test on the milk, not a protein test on ghee (A2A2 meaning).
Our answer: A2A2 confirmed by TaqMan PCR.
  3. Which lab tested purity, and is it NABL-accredited?
Our answer: Equinox Labs, NABL-accredited, 70+ checks.
  4. What are the milk fat, moisture and Baudouin results? Legal limits: fat ≥ 99.5%, moisture ≤ 0.5%, Baudouin negative (reading a report).
    Our answer: 99.76%, 0.24%, negative.
  5. Can I see the full report? A summary is fine; a refusal is not.
Our answer: summary on our lab report page; full report on WhatsApp or email.
  6. Is it made from curd (bilona) or cream? “Bilona” should mean curd churned into makhan (malai vs bilona).
Our answer: whole milk set to curd overnight, hand-churned.
  7. How much milk goes into a kilo? Bilona ghee should need roughly 25–30 litres (milk-to-ghee maths).
    Our answer: roughly 25–30 litres.
  8. Why is the price what it is? A2 bilona ghee far below about ₹2,000 a litre deserves an explanation (A2 ghee prices).
Our answer: from ₹799 for 250 ml to ₹5,399 for 2 litres.
  9. How is it packed, and what is the shelf life?
Our answer: glass only; 12-month shelf life supported by an accelerated study.
  10. Who is behind the brand? A named person and a real address are basic accountability.
Our answer: founded by Ashutosh Nagare, based in Thane, Maharashtra.

How to read the answers

  • Specific beats impressive. “Murrah, PCR, Equinox Labs, 0.24% moisture” is more convincing than “100% pure Vedic A2”.
  • Silence is an answer. If a brand will not name its lab or breed, assume it cannot.
  • Marketing words are not tests. “Vedic”, “organic” and “pure” are not proof of A2 (A2 vs organic vs grass-fed, ghee certifications).

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if A2 ghee is genuine?

Ask for the breed, a DNA genotype test showing A2A2 on the milk, and a NABL lab report showing milk fat of at least 99.5%, moisture of 0.5% or less and a negative Baudouin test.

What should I ask an A2 ghee seller?

Ask which animal and breed, how A2 status was tested, which lab tested purity, whether the ghee is made from curd or cream, how much milk goes into a kilo, and who is behind the brand.

Is a 'Vedic' or 'organic' label proof of A2 ghee?

No. Those words describe marketing or farming claims, not the milk's A2 genotype. Only a genotype test confirms A2.

What is a fair price for A2 bilona ghee?

Genuine A2 bilona ghee generally costs about ₹2,000 to ₹4,500 a litre in India in 2026, depending on the animal and brand.

Will A2 Farmer share its full lab report?

Yes. The summary is on the lab report page, and the full report is shared on request by WhatsApp or email.
