A2 vs Organic vs Grass-Fed Ghee: Which Label Actually Matters?

A2, organic and grass-fed describe different things. A2 is about the animal’s milk protein (desi cows or buffalo); organic is a certified farming standard for feed and inputs; grass-fed describes diet but has no legal definition in India. None of them guarantees purity — only a batch lab report does. The best ghee combines a verified A2 source, a traditional method and published test results.

Quick take

  • A2 = which animal (protein type). Verify with PCR.
  • Organic = certified farming inputs. Verify the logo and certificate.
  • Grass-fed = diet; no legal standard in India.
  • Purity is a separate question — ask for the lab report.

More on each: A2 ghee, organic ghee, grass-fed ghee, bilona, A2 vs desi.

Which label matters most?

  1. Purity first: a lab report with milk fat ≥ 99.5% and a negative Baudouin test. Adulterated “organic A2” ghee is worse than pure regular ghee.
  2. Then source: a verified A2 breed or buffalo, from a named farm.
  3. Then method: bilona for flavour and tradition.
  4. Then feed: grass-fed or organic if it matters to you and the seller can show it.

Can ghee be A2, organic and grass-fed at once?

Yes — but each claim needs its own proof, and every extra claim raises the price. Be wary of jars that stack every buzzword with no documents behind any of them (fake A2 ghee, ghee certifications).

Our approach: A2 bilona ghee from grass-fed Murrah buffalo, with the A2A2 result and purity tests published on our lab report.

Frequently asked questions

Is A2 ghee the same as organic ghee?

No. A2 is about the animal's milk protein; organic is a certified farming standard. Ghee can be one, both or neither.

Is grass-fed ghee A2?

Not necessarily. Grass-fed describes the diet; A2 depends on the breed. Buffalo and Indian desi cows are generally A2.

Which is better, A2 ghee or organic ghee?

Neither label guarantees purity. Choose ghee with a published lab report first, then a verified A2 source and method, then organic or grass-fed if it matters to you.
